Your vehicle’s air-conditioning system plays an important role in maintaining comfort, visibility, and air quality inside the cabin. At Marbree Motors, we provide professional air-conditioning servicing, full system checks, and re-gassing to ensure your air-con runs efficiently, keeps you cool in warmer weather, and helps prevent issues such as misted windows and unpleasant odours.
How Air Conditioning Works
A car’s air-conditioning system is made up of key components including the refrigerant, compressor, condenser, receiver, expansion valve, and evaporator. When activated, the refrigerant circulates through the system, changing between gas and liquid states to absorb heat from the cabin and release it outside, resulting in a steady flow of cool air being delivered into the vehicle.
Servicing & Maintenance
Air-conditioning systems naturally lose around 10–15% of refrigerant each year, which is why it is recommended to have the system serviced regularly. At Marbree Motors, we carry out a full air-conditioning service rather than simple top-ups, including leak detection, pressure and vacuum testing, a full re-gas, and oil replenishment to ensure the system is working correctly and efficiently.
Air Conditioning Service Pricing
We offer a complete air-conditioning service for both types of refrigerant systems: £85.00 for R134a systems (typically vehicles up to 2015), and £115.00 for R1234YF systems (typically vehicles from 2015 onwards). Each service includes a full system check, leak detection, pressure and vacuum testing, re-gas, and oil top-up to restore performance.
Why We Don’t Offer Top-Ups
We do not offer air-conditioning top-ups, as they often mask underlying issues within the system such as leaks or component faults. In many cases, topping up the gas provides only a temporary improvement, leading to the system failing again shortly after. By carrying out a full service instead, we ensure any faults are identified and resolved properly, giving you a reliable and long-lasting result.
Air Conditioning FAQs
Our trained technicians carry out all air-conditioning services on-site using specialist equipment, with most services taking around 45 minutes if no faults are present. If your air-conditioning is not working, the most common cause is low refrigerant due to a leak, although other faults may also be involved, which is why a full system check is essential. Air-conditioning systems cannot be safely serviced at home, as handling refrigerant requires specialist equipment and certification, so all work should be completed by a qualified technician.
